Students, we want to hear from you too! Click here to go to your profile survey and tell us what you think for a chance to win a £20 voucher! We asked Leon to tell us about winning I’m an Engineer, and here is what he said… I had a great time talking to young students across the UK about what being an engineer involves! They asked questions about my PhD work, what it entails from the pros to the cons, what inspired me to become an engineer, the best possible advice I could give to someone who wants to pursue a career in engineering, and many other questions! I was very enthusiastic about relaying my knowledge, experience and key information that I knew they would benefit from hearing at their young age. The majority were very receptive, some captivated, and so it’s a pleasure knowing that we were able to encourage some of the world’s future … Continue reading
The students have spoken. The votes have been double counted… Big congratulations to the Motor Zone winner: Leon Wechie Hard luck to Masha Folk, Sarah Hunt and Mark Catherall but a huge thank you to everyone who took part. You were all brilliant. Students, don’t forget to tell us what you think about science and engineering now you’ve taken part. Log in to your profile, and fill in the 4 questions in the pink box on the right hand side, to be in with a chance to win a voucher.
We’ve counted, checked and rechecked the votes and now reveal it’s game over for… Dominique Anderson This leaves “Adventurous, friendly, curious” Sarah Hunt, “Often quite clever“ Mark Catherall, “Positive. Friendly. Determined“ Leon Wechie and “Friendly, curious, and hard-working” Masha Folk to fight it out for the £500 prize tomorrow. Who would you like to see win tomorrow’s final battle? VOTE
We’ve counted the votes and you’ve now evicted… Andrei Ilie The engineers left standing after tomorrow’s eviction will battle it out in Friday’s final. Who do YOU want to see in the final? VOTE for your favourite! Students, has taking part changed your view of science and engineering? When you next log in and visit your profile, you’ll see a pink box with 4 questions on the right. Fill in the questionnaire to be in with a chance to win a voucher.
The first engineer you’ve evicted is… It’s a draw! No one will be evicted today. One engineer will be evicted every day this week, and you get a new vote each day. Make sure to VOTE to keep your favourite in the competition. A student in each zone will win a voucher for asking great questions (questions that aren’t about One Direction). And remember, you can comment on questions the engineers answer. Do you think the engineer is right? Do you disagree with them? Tell them!
Let’s meet the engineers and schools taking part… The Engineers Sarah Hunt | Rolls-Royce PLC I design parts for aeroplane engines and model them to calculate how long they will last in an engine – they are made from really special materials called ‘single crystals’. Masha Folk | Cambridge University I try to make jet engines eat less fuel by making the turbine inside work better. Mark Catherall | Canopy Simulations I simulate Formula 1 cars so that we can predict what the best design and setup will be for each race. Leon Wechie | Leeds University Finding out whether chemical oils and a material surface like one another, and exploring why and just how intimate their relationship is. Dominique Anderson | Science Technology Facilities Council Making motors move with software. Andrei Ilie | Jaguar Land Rover I make sure that cars can be put together from lots of tiny parts and write the instructions needed to do that; its … Continue reading
