• Question: Do you work with any female engineers? If so how many?

      Well, my company is only 3 people and we’re all boys. But we did recently try to hire an engineer we’ve worked with in the past who’s a girl, she’s extremely good and we’d have loved it if she had come to work with us, but she’s off to work for a big F1 team instead. I worked with some great female engineers at Ferrari and McLaren too.

      Yes, however there are not many female engineers percentage-wise. I work with about 5 female engineers, but the office is quite large. It’s really important that we get more female engineers into the industry because diversity is key to solving the really difficult problems we have in the world.

      Imagine you had to select a karaoke team to try and win a singing contest, and you were only allowed to choose from all the male singers in the world… you are less likely to have the best singers if you only get to choose from half of the population! It’s the same in engineering, we need to make it available and interesting for everyone to get the best solution to engineering problems.

      Not sure about that analogy but hopefully that makes sense haha!
